The KYOS Green Hydrogen Indicator monitors the number of price
occurrences across the European power day-ahead markets that make grid
electricity eligible for green hydrogen production. These occurrences are
accounted when electricity prices fall below 20 EUR/MWh or bellow 0.36 times
the EU Allowance price.
The occurrences are reported in three different formats:
- As the total number of green hydrogen events in a specific month of a
specific year. For instance, the February 2023 point reports the number
of negative price events from February1st 2023, to February 28th 2023.
- As the daily cumulative number of green hydrogen events within a year.
This means that the June 17thth point in the 2023 curve reports all the
number of occurrences between January 1st 2023 and June 17th 2023.
- As the total fraction of the last 12 months that has been eligible for green
hydrogen from the grid. For example, the April, 2024 index reports the
percentage of the time between May 1st 2023, and April 30th 2024 where
hydrogen production from the grid was considered green.
The data sources used for this metric are: 1) the day-ahead hourly historical
price series from EPEX, Nordpool, OMIE, and other publicly available price data
sources per market, and 2) EEX for the historical EUA Futures.
